Plan wants all original features kept

HOMEOWNERS in conservation areas around Bognor Regis are to be deterred from replacing wooden doors and windows with modern materials.

A new management plan for the historically-sensitive locations has been compiled by Arun District Council.

It will be issued for six weeks of public consultation next month. Seventeen of the 29 areas are in the district’s western half.

The plan for them was approved by councillors last week. It states: “Of all the works property owners can undertake, the replacement of windows and doors in particular is a strong concern.

“In general, the council considers that the preferred approach is for the refurbishment of original windows and doors, with replacement considered as an option of last resort.”

Where original features had been lost, uPVC windows should be replaced with those more in keeping with the original building.
