PLANS: Nursing home application comes with 70 jobs

OUTLINE plans for a 60-bed care home and up to 27 two-bedroom cottages on land on the outskirts of Angmering have been submitted to Arun District Council.

The three-acre site, east of the junction of Dappers Lane and Water Lane, was previously granted planning permission as the location for the village’s medical centre, which ended up being built nearer the village centre, in Station Road.

London-based developer Hobden Asset Management’s plans were announced in the same week that Arun councillors recommended that proposals for 600 new homes at Angmering should be included in the council’s local plan for the years up to 2029 (see page 4).

As well as the single-storey cottages, in which at least one person in a couple would have to be aged 55 and over, and the two-storey nursing home, the Dappers Lane complex would include a manager’s cottage and guest suite, laundry room and car parking. The scheme would involve the demolition of Broadlees, a large house on the site. Seventy jobs would be created.

A statement submitted with the planning application says research has shown a ‘significant level of demand’ for such accommodation in the area, and claims that the location would be a suitable location, with a wide range of facilities nearby.

However, the proposals go against land uses allowed for the site by Arun’s current development plan.

The latest Arun plans list also includes:

ANGMERING: internally illuminated signs – three aluminium pole signs, one with four acrylic letters, one pylon, eight flags, three acrylic arrows; non-illuminated – two free-standing entrance signs, two building-mounted entrance signs and one fibreglass Mini car, land south of A259 and west of Mill Lane.
