Bred in Haywards Heath, Commando served the British Armed Forces during the Second World War, carrying crucial intelligence from agents in German occupied France to Britain.

Haywards Heath Town Council has worked with Magda’s, on The Broadway, to place the plaque on the restaurant’s wall, where it will be unveiled tomorrow (March 27).

Pigeons were a vital part of the war effort, used when radio communications were too dangerous.
