After a grey start, the sun is warming the day up nicely. It won’t be long before we hear the cry for rain !.

The A 268 will be very busy on Saturday 17th when the world and his wife will be going to Lea Barn Farm in Rye Foreign for the Rye Country Show, relocated this year from Salts Farm at East Guldeford.

This show is the major Fund Raiser for the Rye Memorial Hospital. There will be a horse show, dog show, Classic cars, Pimms bar, bouncy castle, mini-quad bikes, stalls, displays, Jevington terrier racing team, pony Grand National, and lots, lots more. It is advertised as a great day out for all the family.

The first prize in the raffle is a Citroen C-1.3-door hatchback, kindly donated by Wilmoths Citroen. Tickets are £1. Other prizes include an iPad Mini, a Kindle, a luxury hamper and £100 Garden Vouchers.

I understand that a mini-bus will be running a service to and from the Show at half-hourly intervals.

There will be live music throughout the day.

Entry is on the day at £5 per car which includes parking and all displays. Minibuses are £10.

Still thinking about the hospital, there is to be an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 20th August at 3 pm in the Community Centre, Conduit Hill, Rye, to discuss and vote on the proposal to merge the League of Friends with the Fund Raising Group of the Hospital Management Board.

Although not really Playden, the Hospital is very close to us, and very dear to our hearts.

The Mobile Library will be at Poppyfield on Monday from 11.30 to 11.50 am.

Next week there are several activities arranged by Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. More details can be obtained by phoning 01797 22 77 84.
