We all know about November having no sun, no moon, no dawn, no dusk, no proper time of day, no fruits, no flowers, no butterflies, no bees, no birds, no distance looking blue, no top to any steeple etc, according to Thomas Hood.

*But for me, the cold bright weather is preferable to murky misty days, even if they are getting so short.

*Now that the clocks have changed it does seem as if it is downhill all the way to Christmas. It seems perfectly logical to have a great feast in the depths of winter.

*This has to be written before the Quiz with Fish and Chips, but with the tables booked it will have been a fun evening.

*Bookings are already being taken for the next event to be arranged by the Friends of Playden Church which is the Murder Mystery Evening on 24th November. The format is that the first act of the play is presented, then supper is served and clues discussed, then comes the denouement. Prizes are awarded to the clever people who solve the crime. The supper is two courses and they are included in the ticket price of £10. A bar will be available. Please ring me on 01797 22 26 15 to book your place.

*This all takes place at 7.30 pm in the Playden W. I. Hall, which has a car park.

*Tomorrow, Saturday 3rd November, Ryesingers will present the Faure Requiem in St. Mary’s Church, Rye. Tickets are £7 at the door, including wine. This well - loved piece is sure to delight , and there will also be music by Parry and Tavener, and possibly a solo or two.

A very beautiful musical evening.

*Rye Film Club is showing “The Woman in Black” starring Daniel Radcliffe, 6.30 for 7 pm at the Community Centre, Conduit Hill, Rye.

*The Iden and Playden Garden Society has the first winter illustrated talk by Mr. Ken Turner, who will show us how to have “Colour and Interest all Year Round.” It begins at 7.30 pm in Iden village hall. Members pay £1, visitors and guests are charged £2.This takes place on Monday 12th November.

*Playden School supported the Link Romania appeal with lots of boxes of gifts.

*After the holiday children will be able to buy poppies in support of the Royal British Legion. There will also be wrist bands, crosses and brooches for sale at £2 per item.

*The Open Evening for prospective parents will be on Tuesday 20th November at 6 pm. This is for parents of children starting school next September.

*The school is closed for staff training on Monday 5th November and re-opens for children on Tuesday 6th.

*The recycle Swap-shop seems to have been a great success. Over 300 people attended and 3-400 items were taken away. The remnants went to the Charity shop - 75k; the tip - 60k; and 35k was recycled. £70 was received in donations and refreshments. The Swap Shop was funded by Neighbourhood Enablers. There are plans afoot to repeat this effort at Tilling Green sometime in the future.

*Mid-week services are as usual at 9.30 and 3.30 on Tuesday.

*The 11 am service in Sunday will be the Family Service led by the Vicar.
