Playden

Bright, nippy morning, after a very mixed weekend. The showers on Saturday were fairly frequent and really torrential. Because of this, the Friends of Playden Church made the decision to postpone the car Treasure Hunt. It was thought that nobody would enjoy getting soaked or paddling about in mud. And the weather on Sunday? Bright sunshine all day ! Sometimes you just can’t win.

The Treasure Hunt will now take place in the spring. We are so sorry to disappoint our supporters.

But, on 27th October at 7.30 pm in the W. I. Hall there will be the Quiz and Supper. This time we will offer fish, sausages, chicken or a vegetarian option. We know that the fish is excellent, but you might fancy a change with your chips. The cost will be £7.50, and you bring your own cutlery, condiments and drink. Obviously the food has to be ordered, so please phone 22 26 15 and tell us what you would like. Tables of 4 are preferred. Make up your team or join up on the night.

Tomorrow, Saturday, there is a new venture taking place in the St. Mary’s Centre - as we must learn to call the old F.E.Centre. There is to be a Recycle Swap Shop. Everything is FREE. You bring along things which you no longer want, other people will do the same, and you take away whatever takes your fancy. If you enjoy car boot sales, jumble sales, charity shops or trips to the tip, then this is for you, and much more fun. No electrical items or large furniture please. Refreshments will be available. For any further information please visit www.transitionrye.org.uk or go along between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm.

Playden School will be holding a Christmas Shopping Evening on Monday 22nd October from 7 to 9 pm in Playden W. I. Hall. There will be cards, gifts, wrapping paper, crafty things, all very useful to have bought already as the season gets rushing onwards.

The school football team will be taking part in the qualifying stages of the Collins Cup this afternoon.

During the week Cheetahs will be visiting Ashdown Forest, and Koalas will be in the Old Town Hastings.

The Shoeboxes for the Link Romania Christmas appeal need to be filled up by Sunday 28th October. They can be left at church or if you need them to be collected, please call Mrs. Sue Cavilla on 230 431. Items to include are all the everyday things which we take for granted - soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, combs, socks, hairbrushes, crayons, colouring books and so on. There should be a leaflet at the back of the church which has to be filled in for customs purposes. There are two different lists, one for families, the other for elderly people.

The 11 am service on Sunday for the 21st Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Vicar.
