Playden village voice

They are promising a fine, warm month to compensate for the dismal summer. No sign of it today !!

This coming weekend offers you the opportunity to visit a local studio as part of the Coastal Currents Festival. Jane Beecham and Richard Adams open their home and welcome visitors to view this year’s work. Jane’s ethereal monotypes grow in popularity every year. Inspired by seascapes, landscapes and architecture, expressed in a wealth of translucent colour.

Richard’s idiosyncratic images always entertain, taking the viewer on imaginary flights of fancy to unreal worlds.

Opening days are 8 - 9 September and again on 15 - 16 September from 11 am to 6 pm.

An advance date for your diary. The Friends of Playden Church are planning a Quiz and fish and chip supper, or sausages if you prefer, for 27th October. If I tell you now, you might be able to keep that date free. Details nearer the time.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve invites you to join in with a walk of about 3 miles to observe the movements of seabirds, coasting passerines and waders refuelling on the pools. There may also be some raptors. Meet at Rye Harbour car park at 9am. Donations would be appreciated. A passerine is a kind of sparrow, according to my dictionary.

Playden W. I. has a visit arranged to Hall Place, Bexley. The original date has had to be changed to Monday 24th September because there is some sort of conference on the booked date. There are still some places available, the cost is £20. The coach leaves Playden at 9.15; The Strand at 9.20; and the Station in Rye at 9.30 am. You should be back in Rye by about 5 pm. To discuss any details, please phone Margaret Hewett on 22 34 26.
