What a blazing, scorching weekend it was for the Country Show and the Maritime Festival.

I should like to hazard a guess that those selling drinks did a roaring trade.

Today, Friday 24th, Rye Country Market, held in the Community Centre, Conduit Hill, is inviting everyone for coffee or tea and a slice of cake for £1. Whilst there, you could choose from cakes, savouries, plants, fresh fruit and vegetables, jams, chutneys, cut flowers, free-range eggs and craft items, all of which are for sale. The market is open from 10am to 11.30 am.

A message from Margot: There were no yoga classes on 21st or 22 August. They should recommence on Tuesday 28th at 7 pm and Wednesday 29th at 10 am. It costs £6 for a drop-in, £20 for 4 consecutive weeks. All are welcome at these friendly classes. For any further details, please contact Margot on 01797 22 78 42.

There is a big Book Fair in the New Hall in Winchelsea today and tomorrow - 24, 25th, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Today you could be splashing about in mud, glorious mud, looking for mini-beasts hiding in there. Wellies are advisable ! Booking is essential on 01797 22 77 84. Charge per child is £2. Meet at Lime Kiln Cottage Information Centre at 10.30 am

On Sunday there will be a family picnic in Camber Castle preceding a hunt for fresh water wildlife, from frogs and newts to leeches in Castle Water. Meet at Brede Lock at 12 noon. Back about 3 pm. The walk is 2 miles. Donations appreciated.

On Wednesday 29th there will be an evening stroll to Ternery Pool followed by a closer look at some nocturnal creatures with the help of bat detectors. Meet at Rye Harbour Car Park at 6.30 pm and stay out until dusk. The walk is about 2 miles. Donations appreciated.

There will not be a meeting for Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer this week.

The 11 am service for the 12th Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Rev. Paddy Buxton.
