'Please win Lidl we need you'... Horsham shoppers plea to council

The international supermarket chain has submitted an application to create a new food store at the former Dreams site in Foundry Lane.

Hide AdTwenty letters in support of the application have been received along with an 8,000 strong petition.
Dozens of comments have also been left in support of the plans on the County Times Facebook page.
Natalie Smith said: “Fingers crossed this goes through. We need more competitive priced food and a supermarket in Horsham to help families.”
Rachel Pipe said: “I really hope this goes through. I currently shop in Lidl in Dorking, it’s a really lovely store, and it saves me a considerable amount on my family shop.”

Hide AdKevin Todman said: “Please win Lidl we need you big time and a good spot to be at walking distance for loads of people and good prices please come soon.”
Beckie Bassett added: “Really hope it gets approved will be a good addition to the town.”
However, some concerns have been raised by others.
Ten letters of objection have been received along with an objection from Waitrose with issues raised including an increase in traffic, a lack of proposed parking and the potential increase in light and noise pollution.
Commenting on the County Times Facebook page Mark Thomas said: “This roundabout can’t cope with the traffic levels now let alone with the addition of a supermarket.”

Hide AdQuoQuo Francesco Raciti added: “Before say yes...lets sort out that roundabout. With Lidl there in the morning nobody will reach work on time.”
Councillors are set to discuss the plans on Tuesday (October 2) at Horsham District Council’s Planning Committee North meeting.
