NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: There were 150 replies from residents, amounting to some 600 comments and feedback. There were also detailed comments from the statutory bodies, such as Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council and the South Downs National Park Authority and from landowners whose sites have not been included in the draft plan. The responses all require very careful scrutiny, as the proposals have to be justified and evidenced. The Steering Group are collating all the responses and are now going through them very carefully, with advice from consultants Action in Rural Sussex and a Lewes District Council adviser, to ensure their answers and proposals are completely watertight when it comes to presenting the final plan for examination. This process is expected to continue into January. Once the Steering Group have done this, they will publish all the responses on the website. The steering group meetings are open to the public and Plumpton residents are very welcome to attend. Meetings take place today (December 15), and then on Wednesdays January 18, February 15 and March 15 all starting 7.30pm at the village hall (but check the website, just in case the group reschedule any of the meetings or change the venue). COMMEMORATE 100 YEARS OF CUBS: This Friday (December 16) Cubs from all over the country will be renewing their promise at the same time to commemorate 100 years of Cubs. 1st Plumpton Scout Group will be holding a party in the village hall for this occasion. They are also taking this opportunity to celebrate their Group Scout Leader’s recent award for 50 years’ Service to Scouting. All past Cubs/Scouts of the Group are welcome to go along. Please take any photographs or memorabilia you may have with you.

CHRISTMAS WALK: 3½ miles round Plumpton, organised by the Footpath Society takes place this Saturday December 17. The walk will start at 2pm at Ashcombe, Plumpton Lane (Map Ref: BN7 3AJ). FOOTPATH SOCIETY: start the year with the a three mile circular walk along the Arlington’s Lakeside Trail, beside the banks of the reservoir by the Cuckmere River, with the option of pub lunch in Arlington afterwards. JUMBLE SALE: in aid of the Bowls Club, will be at the village hall, on Saturday January 7. Please save your jumble and take it to the hall from 9am to midday; as it will be much appreciated by the Bowls Club. The sale starts at 2pm; do go along there are sure to be lots of bargains.

MEDIEVAL GOLD AND ENAMEL WORK: is the subject of the Newick & District Decorative and Fine Art Society meeting at the village hall on Tuesday January 10 at 2.15pm. Enamel as you may well know is made of a coloured glass powder which is used to make glorious designs over gold using very high temperatures. The results are glorious; highly coloured and jewel like and they still hold their beauty hundreds of years later. You will be able to see many examples of the enamel work at this lecture in excellent digital illustrations. The lecturer Jane Angelini runs St James’s Art Tours and specialises in the cultures of the Mediterranean world. She is also a freelance lecturer for Swan Hellenic Cruises. Visitors are always most welcome, £7 on the door with tea and biscuits afterwards and a chance to talk to the speaker. FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING: The Plumpton Support Group for St Peter and St James Hospice raised the magnificent sum of £14,075 over the last year. This amount was raised in many ways: the annual Jumble Sale, Quiz Night, Open Gardens and Doughty’s material sale, personal money boxes in people’s homes, talks by Reg Lanaway to various clubs and personal donations. The Festive Fair was also a great success as I mentioned last week. The Group would like to thank everyone who has supported the many events either by donating prizes, attending or helping, your support is very much appreciated. The next fundraising event in aid of St Peter & St James Hospice is the Table Top Sale, at the village hall, on Saturday February 25. Tables cost £12 booked in advance or £15 on the day (if there are tables available). This is a fantastic opportunity to sell unwanted Christmas presents, homemade produce and items or just things that you don’t want anymore. Following on from that will be the Quiz Night on Saturday April 22, a Bluebell Walk on Sunday April 30, a Material Sale on Saturday June 10 and a Jumble Sale on Saturday 19 August.
