Poignant return to South Downs by cancer campaigner

KATE Hardcastle and her dog, Goldie, arrived in Washington last week as part of a tour of local radio stations across the country to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Her brother Terry (70), died of the disease last autumn following a seven week battle and Kate (65), who nursed him, decided to tell his story around the country, travelling by bus using her free bus pass.

Kate, who lives in Morecambe Bay, said her visit to West Sussex was particularly poignant because her brother was a passionate walker and had loved the South Downs.

She had set herself the tough task of visiting 37 radio stations in three weeks and had completed day 10 of her bid to highlight the disease and the need for fundraising when she stayed overnight with friends in Washington.
