Police appeal for witnesses to serious Cross In Hand crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a three-car crash which closed the A267 at Cross In Hand, near Heathfield, for more than three hours and left one of the drivers involved seriously injured.

It happened at 3pm on Tuesday (March 22) and involved a blue Volkswagen Polo, a grey Seat Exeo and a red BMW 320.

The VW driver, a 77-year-old woman from Robertsbridge, was freed from her car by firefighters and taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where she has been detained with serious though not life-threatening injuries. Her condition is stable.

The driver of the Seat, a 54-year-old woman from Staplehurst, Kent, and her passengers, a 24-year-old woman and a one-year-old boy, both from Uckfield, received hospital treatment for minor injuries but were later allowed home. The BMW driver, a 65-year-old woman from Buxted, was unhurt.
