Police help vandal hit community

VANDAL hit buildings at Winchelsea Beach have been given a welcome boost by local police.

Last year Winchelsea Beach’s Community Hall and Rye Bay FC’s Club House were vandalised. The buildings, in Sea Road and Harbour Field, were targeted for several months.

Now Rye Neighbourhood Policing Team have helped the community get back on its feet with a £500 donation from the proceeds of crime.

Village officer PCSO Andy Smith and the team have also increased patrols in the area, given out crime prevention advice and have even started using the Community Hall as a place to hold meetings and on some occasions as a base for a shift or two.

Sussex Police donated £250 to Rye Bay FC and £250 to the Winchelsea Beach Community Association, the money will help fund coaching costs at Rye Bay FC and CCTV at the Community Hall.

The money comes from the Police Property Act Fund made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

PCSO Andy Smith said “These organisations do so much for the local community and I am so happy to help keep them going in any way I can. If you’d like to discuss any community or Policing issues in Winchelsea Beach or would just like to say hello please pop by the Community Hall between 10 and 11am on Wednesday 20 June or contact me by calling 101 or visiting our website www.sussex.police.uk.
