Pudding Cake Lane, which runs between Church Street and Manor Close of the Church Coomb estate, was closed off all day on Friday as police investigated.

Rumours had spread through the town over the course of the week about what had happened ranging from murder to rape and residents have queried why there has been no publicity or warnings issued.

But a police spokesman said they were still interviewing witnesses following the allegation and asked for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at that time to contact them on 0845 6070999.
