Following the theft, police have issued a warning to people to look out for a white transit pick up truck, registration X144 LOE which has been seen in Rother.

The man seen driving the vehicle is described as white, unkempt, aged late 30s-40s.

Police say they regularly receive reports of people driving around looking for scrap metal.

Sergeant Sarah Porter, of Battle Police said: "Residents are always encouraged to phone the police in relation to suspicious vehicles, and the new Neighbourhood Watch facility is a great way of Rother police being able to get a message out to people quickly.

"If residents are approached by people asking for scrap metal, do not give them anything and try to take the index number of the vehicle to help us.

"We encourage people not to leave any type of scrap visible to passing traffic as this does attract attention from people and therefore brings attention to your premises."
