Police link rural burglaries

Police say they are linking the burglary of a house in Bodiam to previous break ins to homes in rural Rother.

On Friday March 12, the thief broke into the property by smashing a window at the rear of the building.

A number of high value items, including a television, Nintendo Wii games console, PlayStation 3 games console and a digital camera, were stolen in the raid.

The burglary happened some time between 9am-4pm.

There have been a number of break ins in the Rother area over the last few weeks, resulting in the theft of several expensive items, including electrical equipment, and money.

Previous break ins included a daylight burglary in Marley Rise, Battle, on March 4.

Intruders got into the house by smashing a pane of glass at the back of the building, making off with items including a computer and cash.

In another incident on February 13, the owner of a property in School Hill, Burwash, returned from holiday to find the house ransacked, with jewellery, electrical items and ornaments stolen.

Once again, the intruder got into the building by smashing a rear window.

Police are appealing for residents to look out for anything suspicious.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Battle police, said: "Detectives are linking this burglary with previous rural breaks and are following active lines of enquiries.

"Can I continue to ask members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity."
