Police ‘pleased’ to have Ford absconder in custody

AN INMATE who absconded from Ford Open Prison has been arrested and charged with a variety of offences, police have announced today (Monday, August 4).

Craig Hayler, 30, walked out of Ford prison on March 10 this year.

He was arrested in Southampton on Tuesday (July 29).

He has now been charged with being unlawfully at large as a result of him walking out of Ford, making off without payment in April in Worthing, burglary in May in Worthing and burglary in July in Hedge End in Hampshire.

He has been remanded in custody.

Detective Inspector Dave Wardley-Wilkins said: “We have been trying to locate Hayler for some time and am pleased he is now back in custody.”
