POLICE RAID DRUGS FACTORY

POLICE discovered a cannabis factory and seized 150 plants in a raid at the disused cement works in Upper Beeding.

Officers had been making an unrelated inquiry at the site, on the River Adur side of the facility, when they noticed an overpowering smell of cannabis early on Tuesday morning.

After obtaining a search warrant, they raided a lorry trailer, which had been parked at the rear of the site, off the A283 Shoreham Road.

Sergeant Bruce Eyre, of Sussex Police, was the officer in charge at the scene.

He said: "It was a reasonably professional set-up. It was what you would call a cannabis factory, for want of a better term. There was a hydroponic set-up, with lights and heaters."

Two men were arrested in connection with the raid. Plants of varying sizes were removed from the trailer, bagged up and taken away for scientific analysis, along with the heating and lighting equipment.
