Police seek assault 'Good Samaritan'

POLICE are trying to trace a 'Good Samaritan' who went to the aid of a woman who was being assaulted in Upper Sea Road on Tuesday last week, May 17.

The victim was pushing her young daughter in a pram at about 3.20pm when she saw a man she had spoken to some two months previously.

She told officers she had tried not to look at him as she did not want to speak to him.

But as the man approached her he said: “Hello, how are you?”

He then grabbed her left wrist with both his hands.

She tried to pull her arm away, but she did not want to let go of the pram. She then shouted at the man “get off me” and a struggle ensued that lasted several minutes.

A second man then approached from behind and told her attacker: “Get your hands off her”. The assailant released his grip and walked off towards Hastings. The “Good Samaritan” who had intervened then escorted the woman to the railway station.

The man whom police want to interview on suspicion of assault is described as black, aged in his 30s, 5ft 4ins tall and of medium build. He had tightly-braided black hair, worn close to his head, and was wearing a dark jacket and trousers.

PC Rob Jennings said: “The victim suffered a sore wrist and the incident has scared both her and her daughter.

“We are keen to trace the Good Samaritan who helped the woman and the suspect who assaulted her.”
