Police warning after Rustington garages crimewave

FIVE garages were broken into at Rustington overnight between Friday and Saturday (May 9/10), prompting a warning to householders from police.

Property including two cycles – a Giant and a Trek – a lawn mower, a digital camera and three bottles of wine were stolen from the garages of homes in Cudlow Avenue, Holmes Lane, Cove Road and The Bramblings. An unsuccessful attempt was also made to break into another garage.

Police are reminding residents to ensure they have adequate security including a battery-powered alarm and, if possible, to chain expensive items to a secure point inside, fit additional locks to up-and-over doors and install a garage door blocker on the outside of the door – a device which is bolted permanently to the floor, and has a large ‘T’ bar shaped restrictor and a locking system.

Further advice on security marking of property can be obtained from local police and any incidents of suspicious behaviour should be reported to police.
