Business park owner makes plans to replace commercial building lost to fire two years ago

Plans have been made to replace a commercial building following a major fire two years ago.

James D Baird (Home Farm) wants to replace the building lost to fire with a new commercial building, plus parking and other associated infrastructure, including a new attenuation pond.

The new building footprint would be similar to the former structure but slightly shorter and repositioned to be 7.4m west and 3.4m south of the original.

The proposal includes 37 parking bays and cycle parking for ten bikes. A new circulation roadway would loop around the building, improving on-site movement for all vehicles.

Agent Savills has made the application to Arun District Council on behalf of the owners for Baird Business Park, in Grevatt's Lane, Climping.

In the planning statement, Savills states: “The proposal responds to the loss of the former commercial building on the site by a fire and would reinstate employment floorspace within an established business park.

“The development would maintain the productive economic use of the site, support the continued operation of the wider business park, and contribute positively to the rural economy.”

The previous building was used by Arun Waste Services, with mixed uses on the upper floor and a waste transfer operation at ground level. The building was destroyed by fire and has since been demolished.
