Arundel Community Awards celebrate those who invest time and energy to support the Arundel community

Arundel Town Council held their rescheduled 2025 Community Awards on 20 December at Arundel Farmers Market – recognising those who quietly and consistently bring people together, strengthen our town, and embody the very best of community service.

The Mayor of Arundel, Carolyn Kenney, presented the Arundel Community Cup to Gemma Odde, saying: "Gemma has been recognised for her incredible dedication in organising the Christmas Day lunch at the Norfolk Centre for the past eight years. A festive meal is provided for at least 40 people who would otherwise spend the day alone. She raises the funds; coordinates the food; ensures guests are safely transported to and from the event; and inspires and manages a team of volunteers who cook and serve on the day.

Her compassion, organisation, and commitment bring joy and companionship to so many and make Christmas truly special for those in our community.

As one nomination said: 'This is a wonderful gift to the town.' ”

The Voluntary Group Cup was awarded to Elevenses - the Monday coffee mornings at Arundel Lido which support elderly residents, including those with dementia and their friends, families and carers. The award was accepted by one of the founders, Jackey Burzio, who together with Lido Manager, Nikki Richardson, runs the weekly session with the help of a fabulous team of volunteers.

The Young Person's Community Commendation was awarded to Ellie for her outstanding contribution as a Guide helper at Brownies and Rainbows. Ellie’s confidence, kindness, and commitment make her a real asset to Girl Guiding in Arundel.

Receiving Certificates of Recognition in the Young Persons' category were Elliott for completing a challenging 25k walk and raising just under £1,000 for Home-Start Arun, Worthing & Adur; and Isla and Paige for being caring, motivated, and community-minded young people, who take pride in their environment by organising regular litter picks for their school community.

A Community Recognition Certificate was awarded to Martin and Debbie Chisanga who are making a massive contribution to our town with the warmth, care and first-class service from them and their team at Arundel Pharmacy .

Lastly, Angela Standing was awarded a certificate and gifts in recognition of her incredible 20 years as Arundel's Town Crier.

The celebration finished by singing some carols in the crisp December sunshine, led by Jonny Mott on the accordion.
