Eastbourne is set to bid for funds from the government which could lead to a windfall of up to £20 million.

With Eastbourne listed in tier one of the funding initiative, bids have been invited in categories covering the regeneration of town centres, improvements to local transport infrastructure and the maintenance of cultural, heritage and civic assets.

The Chief Executive of Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce Christina Ewbank will chair a new group to oversee the town’s bid as well as a business-focused process that will assess a range of ideas and local initiatives for inclusion in the town’s submission.

Ms Ewbank said, “Drawing on my network of connections in the business community we’ll be able to hit the ground running, which is just as well considering the tight timetable for preparing a bid of this significance.”

Bids will be scored on their merits for deliverability, value for money and strategic fit.

Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council David Tutt, said, “I’m delighted Christina has accepted this key role to steward our bid and give us the best chance of securing the maximum amount of funding possible.

“Her commercial background is second to none and this experience will undoubtedly give Eastbourne the edge when each bid is assessed.”

The deadline for bids is June 18.
