Twelve places on Crawley Borough Council will be contested during May’s elections.
The candidates have been approached for statements. Here’s what they had to say.
The polls will open on Thursday May 2. For information about postal voting, Voter ID, and the location of the polling stations, log on to the council’s website.
9. Esther Barrott - Labour - Gossops Green & North East Broadfield
I was born and raised in Crawley and am saddened by the impact of fourteen years of Tory rule upon the lives of people in the town with hard-working families facing increased mortgages and longer NHS waiting lists. I will work with you to resolve local issues so that we can make where we live even better. I will work with you and Cllr Chris Mullins to resolve local issues and maintain your local neighbourhoods so that Gossops Green and North East Broadfield are places where you can be proud to live. 10. Iain Dickson – Gossops Green & North East Broadfield Green
Iain is a long-serving member of the Green Party and an even longer serving member of the Crawley community. Iain is also the Green Party prospective parliamentary candidate for Crawley. If elected Iain will put forward a plan for a Crawley Economic Model, designed to help grow Crawley’s economy utilising local businesses, organisations and citizens to bring Crawley together. He would oppose the building of a second runway at Gatwick Airport, and support local trade unions in their campaign for a Green New Deal for Gatwick. Iain would help kick start a Local Exchange and Trading System, similar to systems seen in the past around Crawley, to help local residents work together and share their expertise with one another for mutual benefit. Helping people get access to services they require without traditional cost. Photo: submitted
11. Anwaera Perveen - Conservative - Gossops Green & North East Broadfield
I have lived in Gossops Green for nearly 20 years and most of my family live in Gossops Green or nearby in Broadfield. My children go to Gossops Green Primary School, and I have campaigned with other parents on various issues to improve our community. I feel our concerns are not being addressed by the Labour administration at Crawley Borough Council. I am very worried about how the Labour administration is managing or mismanaging our money and our town. Rather than sitting on the sidelines and complaining about the issues I have decided to put myself forward to represent the residents of Gossops Green and North East Broadfield as their councillor, to ensure our voices are heard and listened to. I want to make sure Gossops Green and North East Broadfield a is a safe neighbourhood for your family, and my family, to grow up and live. Photo: submitted
12. Debbie Plaister, Heritage Party candidate for Gossops Green & North East Broadfield 2024
I have lived in Crawley for the past 15 years and became a member of the Heritage Party three years ago after reading its manifesto and agreeing with its common-sense policies. I am disillusioned with all the legacy parties that are beating the same drum. I continually find myself questioning whether our town council is truly putting the needs of its patrons at the forefront of its policies or in fact are following bureaucratic decisions based on the ideologies of unelected globalists: an agenda that is seriously jeopardising the safety and security of every man, woman, boy and girl in this once sovereign nation. If elected I will work tirelessly to re-engage the patrons of Gossops Green and Broadfield and enhance the state of community facilities and roads in our neighbourhood.
