Two semi-detached Crawley houses could be knocked down to make way for a block of 20 new flats.

The existing homes are on the corner of Brighton Road and Stonefield Close in Southgate.

An application for the part four storey, part three storey block of flats has been submitted to Crawley Borough Council.

The main issue was a lack of affordable housing and the new plans include two units. These would be intermediate tenure/shared ownership.

According to the developer, the new building would be of a similar scale to other apartment blocks in the area including Godolphin Court and Barley House.

While it would be taller than some of the individual houses nearby, it is set back from the Brighton Road boundary and is on a main road a short distance from Crawley town centre.

A communal landscaped garden would be provided to the rear of the site consisting of existing mature trees and shrubs and a water feature, complemented by hardstanding and seating area incorporating planters.

A total of 20 car parking spaces would be provided alongside 38 cycle spaces.
