Political opinion: Labour candidate Dave Rowntree heads back to school
This is a contributed party political press release. This website and its associated newspapers support no political party and it does not necessarily reflect our views. We consider contributed releases from all lawful parties as part of the vibrant debate in the run-up to the General Election and would encourage all candidates to use this platform to positively explain their vision and policies for their local communities.
But Dave’s visit comes at an uncertain time for the academy, as funding concerns across the University of Brighton Academy Trust mean schools are planning strike action.

Hide AdDave, who hopes to be ‘top of the class’ when Mid Sussex heads to the polls this Thursday, said, “What a privilege it’s been to visit Blackthorns and to talk to the students about their hopes for the future.

"It’s not been an easy time for schoolchildren, whether that’s due to the after effects of the pandemic or fears about global security and climate change, but it’s been inspirational to see their resilience and positivity shine through.”
Dave added, “It is vital the funding issue is resolved soon. This must be a very unsettling time for the children and parents.
"Special Educational Needs provision, teaching assistants and classroom resources must always be the priority.
"If I’m fortunate enough to be elected, I will make it my mission to ensure children in Mid Sussex are given the best possible start and a secure future.”
