Liberal Democrat candidate wins Uckfield Town Council by-election
Liberal Democrat Tim Murray has been elected to represent West Ward in the Uckfield Town Council by-election.
The Lib Dems celebrated the victory after the election was held on Thursday, August 27.
Councillor Murray received 524 votes and the Lib Dems said he ‘comfortably’ defeated Reform UK candidate Gary Peter Johnson who received 203 votes.
Uckfield Town Council announced the results at www.uckfieldtc.gov.uk, saying: “We congratulate Councillor Murray on this result and look forward to welcoming them to Uckfield Town Council in due course. This By-Election came part way through the four-year electoral cycle for Uckfield Town Council. All 15 Town Council seats will be up for election in May 2027.”

Newly elected Councillor Murray said: “A big thank you for your vote. I am looking forward to working for residents and supporting our Town Council. I’m eager to get stuck into the issues that matter most to people here, including making sure government know we want to protect our local green spaces and making sure West Ward residents have a strong voice and someone who listens on the council.”
The Lib Dems said Councillor Murray has lived in Uckfield for 30 years and brings ‘a strong background of local community service as a primary school Chair of Governors, a local charity trustee, and a professional project manager’.
They said: “The victory shows again that Uckfield has become a clear battleground between the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK. Back in May’s county council election for Uckfield North, the Lib Dems won by a narrow margin of just 31 votes over Reform. In Thursday’s two-way contest, which covers a large part of the Uckfield North division, support for the Liberal Democrats grew significantly, with Tim Murray taking more than 72 per cent of the overall vote.”
