A new Domino's Pizza in Pound Hill could be approved next week.

The unit in Pound Hill Parade is currently occupied by Crown of India, but the pizza delivery chain has applied for permission for a change of use from restaurant to takeaway.

The company’s planning application, which includes a replacement shopfront and new ventilation equipment, has been recommended for approval and is set to be debated by Crawley Borough Council’s Development Control Committee on Tuesday March 22.

The council has received 20 letters of objection from residents raising fears over increased traffic and parking, the fact that the parade already has takeaways and the impact on an existing small pizza business, and a potential increase in late night activity.

Some residents also suggested it would send the wrong message to children on healthy eating given its proximity to a school.

But the planning officers’ report reads: “The large number of representations received in response to the application are acknowledged and raise particular issues relating to competition with existing business within the parade and whether there is a need for a larger chain operator such as Domino’s Pizza.

“However issues relating to competition are not material planning considerations for consideration in the determination of this application.”
