Plans for 193 new home in Southwater

Plans for 193 new homes south of Southwater have been submitted to the council by Wates Developments.

The developer is bidding to gain outline permission for the units on land off Mill Straight from Horsham District Council. Although the land adjoins the village of Southwater it is within Shipley parish. Wates Developments submitted a scoping report to HDC for the site in the summer and held several public exhibitions in Southwater for residents. Speaking in July Martin Leach, of Wates Developments, said: “We are looking forward to developing a positive relationship with the local community and to foster a constructive dialogue on how the development proposals may be able to help with local aspirations.” Land west of Worthing Road is included in HDC’s planning framework with around 500 units allocated for the site. However Berkeley Strategic is lobbying for up to 2,750 homes.
