A report detailed how remedial and redecoration work to the building including repairing structural defects is budgeted at £49,350 plus VAT.

The proposed ramp was welcomed following the meeting.

Claire Needs, a town and district councillor, said: “I have always been passionate about improving access to public buildings for everyone. Access is about equality and I believe that everyone should be able to access buildings the front, not just from round the back. This has been my main focus since becoming elected, to champion access and equality for all.”

Fellow town and district councillor Matt Stanley said “The town council has been exploring this option for a while now, and as with the beach it is only right and proper we explore accessibility here.

“The Picturedrome Cinema is an asset to the town, and entering through the front door of this amazing Grade II listed building, ordering your popcorn and collecting the tickets is all part of the experience.”
