Plans to convert an old barn in Bosham into a house have been turned down by Chichester District Council.

The application, for a barn at Lower Hone Farm, was put to an online meeting of the planning committee, where opinions were divided.

Planning permission to convert the barn into two homes had been given in 2002 but officers were not happy with the new design, which included ‘quite a significant extension’ and the creation of a natural swimming pool.

While some councillors found the design ‘exciting’ and ‘innovative’, others agreed with the officers, calling it a ‘significant change’ to what was approved in 2002.

The application was refused by eight votes to five.
