In her weekly column for Sussex World, Alison Griffiths – MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton – writes about some of her priorities for 2026.

I hope you had a good Christmas and are looking forward to the new year.

As MPs return to the House of Commons this week, I want to share with you some of the issues that I will continue to campaign on.

Labour’s plans for a mandatory digital ID scheme will gather pace this year and I will do everything in my power to challenge and frustrate its roll out.

It was not in their general election manifesto, and it is very clear to me from your responses to my social media postings on the matter that you do not want it.

I will also continue to speak out over the decision to cancel the elections this year for a new Sussex-wide mayor, along with other local elections. Democracy is precious and I have made my position clear that it is simply wrong to take away your right at the ballot box.

As ever, I will hold this government to account regarding its lack of support for local businesses. Increased taxation and costs placed on owners by Chancellor Rachel Reeves is hammering entrepreneurship and the looming implementation of the Employment Rights Bill 2025 will make running a business even more bureaucratic, complex and costly.

Our communities came together last month to help clean up the beaches in the area that were littered with cargo and debris from the Baltic Kipper vessel that lost sixteen of its containers overboard. As your MP, I will continue to put pressure on all those concerned to ensure that local residents and taxpayers are not left picking up the tab for the clean-up operation.

I am proud to be your MP for Bognor Regis, Littlehampton and the surrounding villages.

If I can be of any help to you, please email me at: [email protected] or write to: Alison Griffiths MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
