Public Notice Portal round-up: New puffin crossing in Angmering, Sompting road closure and Rustington warehouse demolition

Plans for a new puffin crossing in Angmering, a road closure in Sompting and new commercial units in Rustington are among recent applications and notifications on the Public Notice Portal.

• A new puffin crossing will be installed for the safety of schoolchildren and other pedestrians in Angmering.

West Sussex County Council has given notice of the installation of a new crossing in Arundel Road, at the pedestrian entrance to St Margaret’s C of E Primary School.

A permanent Traffic Regulation Order will be made, the effect of which will be to remove the current School Keep Clear markings on both sides of Arundel Road, so they may be replaced by the white zigzag markings of the new crossing.

The council said: “The proposed new crossing is to be provided by the developer building new housing on land west of Angmering Road. Provision of the new crossing was required by planning consent for the development and is intended to improve pedestrian safety on Arundel Road, particularly for those travelling to St Margaret’s C of E School.

“Unlike the yellow school markings, white crossing markings do not need to be shown in parking orders. Instead, the proposed new markings are shown on the crossing layout plan.”

Any comments or objections about the proposal must be received before July 23.

• A West Sussex village road will be closed while footway improvement works take place.

Alternative routes will be indicated and access to properties on the affected length of road will be maintained at all times.

Persimmon Homes is building Malthouse Meadows on land west of Sompting Avenue, with access via a new road linking to West Street and a secondary access from the southern end of Loose Lane.

A traffic calming system has been designed for Loose Lane as a result, to encourage traffic to sue the primary route.

• New plans for self-build homes affecting a Public Right of Way in Ferring have been resubmitted following refusal in May last year.

The application includes two three-bedroom homes on an underutilised garden area at Kivesborough, in Littlehampton Road.

Agent ECE Planning Limited says the properties have been designed for the applicants' children to live in.

Two previous applications have been refused due to drainage issues. The new proposal reduces the number of dwellings from three to two, with landscaping.

• The owners of Rustington Shopping Centre have submitted plans to alter a shopfront following the closure of The Original Factory Shop earlier this year.

A planning application for 15 Churchill Parade, The Street, Rustington, has been submitted to Arun District Council on behalf of Store Property Investments.

Alterations include replacement shopfronts at ground-floor level four new windows at first-floor level. Comments to be made by July 30/

• Plans to demolish a vacant industrial unit in Rustington and replace it with four commercial units have been resubmitted following refusal.

Agent RE Planning says the sole reason for refusal of plans for Unit 2 Brookside Avenue related to water drainage and the issue has been addressed with this revised proposal.

The new application made to Arun District Council seeks permission for the demolition of the existing building and replacement with four new commercial units with associated access, parking and landscaping works.

The detached warehouse and industrial unit was previously used by family-run engineering firm Precision Products (Brighton) but has been vacant since September 2023.

Owner The Rookery Estates Company says the 1950s building has been on the market for more than a year with very little interest from potential business.

As the existing warehouse is of very poor quality with an asbestos roof, it wants to put up a new building and subdivide it as it understands there is more demand for smaller business units.
