The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum (HDOPF) announced it will be hosting (supported by Horsham District Council and Age UK Horsham) their highly popular annual ‘MP Question Time’ event for local older people on Friday November 6. This year, the meeting will be held through Zoom allowing people to attend and listen in from the comfort of their own home.

Martin Bruton, chairman of the forum said: “The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum originally started this meeting of local older people with local MP, Jeremy Quin in 2016. It was so well attended, informative, candid and enjoyable it is now being held annually. With, in person meetings severely restricted we didn’t want to miss out on this event, hence using Zoom.”

The HDOPF MP Question Time event is a genuine opportunity for the older community from across the Horsham District, to meet an MP, put questions, raise issues and listen to an MP’s answers and views, he added.

On November 6 the meeting is with Andrew Griffith, MP for Arundel and the South Downs.

A HDOPF spokesman said: “He regularly expresses his forthright concerns in Parliament and in his articles in the WSCT i.e. over the governments proposals for planning reform and use of an algorithm to calculate the numbers for building new houses to be met by local authorities.”

The meeting is for older people aged 60 or above living in the Horsham District or those that care for someone who is, or those that are involved with or simply care about the issues faced by older people.

The event is also open to anyone who is involved with the challenges and issues faced by older people in the Horsham District including neighbourhood, parish, district and county councillors.

The free event will be held 10.30am to 1pm.

Martin added:” For those not used to attending Zoom meetings we are holding a practice Zoom session without Andrew Griffith MP, two days before, on Wednesday November 4 10.30am – 11.30am. Completely informal and friendly.”

To attend either or both sessions, the forum is asking people to simply book via an email to [email protected] as there is a licence limit on numbers (100).

The spokesman said: “You will be sent the joining link and passwords etc prior to the meeting(s).

“If you have a question that you would like to ask Andrew Griffith MP, (even if you can’t attend the meeting), email that to the Forum if possible well before the event please, so that a fair range of questions can be put plus, if research is needed, Mr Griffith will have the answer on the day.

“Due to the nature of a Zoom meeting, time constraints and numbers attending it is unlikely that questions from the floor can be put on the day. There will be a visible, rolling, write a comment section on the meeting webpage during the meeting for anyone to make a comment.”
