While some local authorities hold all-out elections every four years, some either hold polls every year, or every other year or three out of four years.
No East Sussex or West Sussex county council elections will be held this year, while a general election has to be held by no later than January 2025.

9. Lewes District Council -all seats
After the 2019 election, a Co-operative Alliance was formed between the Greens, Lib Dems, Labour and independents. With so many different factors it remains to be seen what parties will stand candidates where and what impact this will have on the final result. Photo: staff

10. Mid Sussex District Council - all seats
Back in 2015 the Conservatives took every single seat, but Lib Dem, Green and Independent gains in 2019 ended that. Recent by-election results suggest gains by the other parties in Burgess Hill four years ago could be replicated elsewhere across the district. Photo: Steve Robards

11. Rother District Council - all seats
The Conservatives lost control of Rother with particularly heavy losses in Bexhill at the hands of the Association of Independents. Will the Rother Alliance retain enough seats to stay in power or will the balance swing back to the Conservatives? Photo: o3p

12. Wealden District Council - all seats
The Conservatives go into the election with a majority, but it wouldn't take much to lose it. Things to watch out for is whether the Lib Dems can make decent gains outside of Hailsham and if the Greens can build on recent wins in the north of the district. Photo: Peter Cripps
