The year-one pupil was representing Durrington Infant School and handed a new handmade poppy wreath to Worthing mayor Sean McDonald last Tuesday.

Kasia Watson, year-one teacher, explained: “Our poppy wreaths have been on display in the foyer of the Town Hall, alongside the Books of Remembrance, since 2014, when we first attended the 100 years commemoration of Armistice Day at the War Memorial.”

After the presentation, the mayor invited Alex, his mum and Mrs Watson to have tea and chocolate biscuits with him.

Mrs Watson added: “After Alex had drunk his tea and eaten most of the biscuits, the mayor let him sit at his desk.”

The poppy wreath is now on view to the public in the foyer of the Town Hall.
