Post Office '˜working hard to maintain services' during strike action

On Monday, September 30, members of CWU have been called to strike at the Shoreham Crown Branch.

Despite this the Post Office will aim to maintain all services for customers and stresses that the Shoreham Crown Branch has remained open during previous strike action.

However if there is any disruption then posters at the branch will point customers to the nearest alternative branch.

The Post Office is proposing to franchise 70 branches with retail partners and invest around £70 million in the remaining 300 branches.

Shoreham Crown Branch is one of the 300 which will receive part of the investment, aiming to improve services.

Kevin Gilliland, Network and Sales Director at the Post Office, said: “The CWU are calling for an above inflation pay agreement when last year our overall performance was a loss of £116m; we must reverse this loss of public money. Strike action can only cost our people money, cause disruption to customers and threaten our plans to turn the business around and keep our branches on high streets and in city centres across the UK.

The CWU have refused their members a fair and affordable pay offer of cash payments totalling up to £3400 by April 2015, and are failing to recognise the financial realities faced by the Crown network.

Any action will not affect over 97 per cent of the Post Office network and the majority of Crown branches have remained open during previous strike action.”
