Prison drugs

Five members of the public have been caught for allegedly trying to smuggle goods into Ford Open Prison.

The prison's vigilant and quick-thinking staff have foiled the incidents where alcohol, illegal drugs and food were being taken along for prisoners.

The individuals who were stopped were handed over for arrest by Sussex Police.

The results of the incidents were reported last week by the prison's governor, Fiona Radford. They have taken place since the start of this year.

Mrs Radford said: 'I am pleased to see that recent improvements in security for the whole prison have had such pleasing results. The incidents outline the effective supervision by my staff and our good use of intelligence.'
