“I would like to thank Paul Berry who joined us today from BEAT Responders for the ribbon cutting. We hope to continue working closely with BEAT Responders and the rest of the local community.”

On social media customers have expressed their excitement about the new stores opening.

Nick Layt said: “A busy first day in the new Billingshurst Sainsbury’s. Just as well BEAT responders are on hand in case the excitement gets too much.”

The shop was closed for three months whilst conversion works were carried out after both companies agreed a deal over the supermarket in March.

20 new jobs have been created and all previous employees have been retained with the hope more jobs will become available in the future.

The store will be open from 7am until 11pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday’s.
