The six children at Downview Primary School, Felpham, demonstrated the techniques they had gained with the Unlock Potential learning.

Kimberley Newman, eight, told parents and teachers at the presentation ceremony: “It makes me feel smart because I can spell some of the words now.

“I said something to my mother and she couldn’t believe it.”

One of the teachers involved, Rachel Adams, said: “The children have worked hard and really enjoyed it. They were really keen to let me know of their progress.”

The course took place in seven two-hours sessions led by Unlock Potential’s business partners, Jane Somner and Louise Barnes.

Jane said: “The school selected six of the children that needed a little bit of help with reading and spelling.

“They have really progressed on the course.”
