The inspiration for the bid was the passion for swimming of former masters coach Doug Hollett, whose untimely death in January brought forward plans to improve the sessions and increased the need for more trained volunteer coaches.

Club chairman Roy Beeley said: “We are a successful club but with the grant we will be able to do even more.

“By working with others, including the masters swimmers at Rye, we will be able to improve the quality of sessions and coaching that are provided.

“The local area has a growing expertise in triathlon with several events now taking place across 1066 country.

“The funding will be used to encourage more people to take part more regularly in triathlon and enable individuals to be better prepared for each element particularly improving swimming indoors and outdoors. Our thanks go to Sport England and all the people who have supported the application.”

The money will pay for development of the Sunday morning masters swimmers and triathlete session at Rye including new equipment, helping improve swim techniques and help with training for events.

It will also fund a new junior focused triathlon swimming session run by LAC training linking to the new Junior Tri event held at Rye.
