£12K grant for Robertsbridge village hall refurbishment

Robertsbridge Community Association has been awarded a grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust to update the hall’s toilets and expand the kitchen.

Chairman of the association Philip Underhill said they cannot wait to get started in making the hall more attractive.

“This grant is great news for the hall and Robertsbridge,” he said.

“These improvements will make the hall a much more attractive and flexible venue for events and activities and we look forward to work starting.”

The grant is one of 27 the trust has awarded to community and environmental projects, with more than £875,000 distributed.

The trust awards grants through the Landfill Communities Fund and since 1998, more than £2.8m has been handed to 115 projects in Sussex.

Work will now start on working with the community association to finalise the project’s details, including its start date, so that work can begin as soon as possible.

Executive director of the trust Paul Taylor said the application should be applauded for beating the other contenders.

“The community association needs to be congratulated on securing its grant in the face of stiff competition from a large number of other applicants,” he said.

“The improvements will make a real difference to Robertsbridge, and we look forward to seeing work start.”

Robertsbridge Community Association works to provide and maintain a village hall for village activities and events, organise activities and events for the benefit of the village and hire the hall out generally to pay for its existence.
