£15m art auction

One of the finest collections of British art and furniture, which graced Woolbeding House, near Midhurst, is to be sold at auction in June. The collection was built up by Simon Sainsbury, described as 'the quiet man' of the supermarket dynasty, who was the National Trust's tenant at the 18th century house from 1973 until his death in 2006 at the age of 76.

Mr Sainsbury left instructions the collection should be auctioned in aid of the Monument Trust, which he founded to help many diverse causes. The sale is expected to raise more than 15m.
