£5,000 for charities

THE Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society annual presentation evening took place earlier this month, when money raised for good causes was distributed.

The total of 5,350 was raised at last September's event, was handed out to representatives of local and national worthy causes.

These included St Wilfreds Hospice, Macmillan Nurses, Leukaemia Research, TS Spartan, Red Cross, St John's Ambulance, the fire service, Uckfield Rotary Club, Uckfield Lions, Deb's Dancers, RNLI, local schools, Air Training Corps, Luxford Day Centre and Wealden District Council's Chairman's Golden Jubilee Appeal to raise a million pounds for local hospices.
