Pupils get newwoodland class

Peasmarsh pupils are set to embark on a woodland adventure with the launch of a new Forest School.

Pupils will benefit from weekly sessions in the outdoor classroom environment.

The Forest School sessions take place in an established area on woodland which is now part of the school site and are designed to encourage and inspire pupils of all ages through positive outdoor experiences.

Activities will include den building, tree climbing, sawing and whittling wood, woodland management, exploring and adventure games and fire lighting.

Acting Head Teacher Luke Atkinson said, “As a school we are always trying to develop and improve the children’s educational experience.

“Following the schools rapid improvement in English and Maths results, we are very fortunate to now also be able to offer wonderful and exciting opportunities which will enable all the children to have the best possible holistic education and engage with the curriculum in a very hands-on approach.

“We would also like to thank the Diocese of Chichester for its kind donation of the woodland.”

The new Forest School was opened by BBC Antiques Roadshow’s glass expert and former Peasmarsh resident Andy McConnell.

Attending the opening were local MP Huw Merriman and Rye Mayor Bernardine Fiddimore.

Chair of Governors Paul Stout said, “This is a wonderful facility for all our children and they love it! We hope to share it with many others over the coming years. We have highly skilled and enthusiastic staff running the sessions and it allows us to take the learning experiences into an entirely new environment.”
