Pupils' sale for Africa

PUPILS at St Leonards-Mayfield School showed that fund raising was one of their superior extra-curricular activities with a bring-and-buy sale for a good cause.

Prefects Catherine Ankerson, Kate Hughes and Olivia von Wulffen decided to organise the sale in aid of a worsening situation in southern Africa. A school spokesman said: 'Millions of people are already starving because of yet another failed harvest caused by drought, so the girls decided to organise a bring-and-buy sale to raise money for the crisis fund.'

The cake stall sold out early on, despite the large number of goodies baked by the students and a magnificent contribution from the food and nutrition department. The spokesman added: 'The girls managed to raise over 220, which was no mean achievement in less than an hour-and-a-half!'
