Puppy returned to owners after being stolen in burglary

Homeowners have been reunited with their puppy after he was stolen during a burglary at a Barnham home last week.

Barney, a 13-week-old golden retriever, was stolen from a property in Lake Lane during the early hours of Thursday morning (March 23).

Owners Stephanie and Chris Scott posted a delighted update on Facebook to say their much loved pet was home safe and sound after an appeal on social media was shared more than 200,000 times.

Stephanie said Barney is going to the vets for a check up, but seems unharmed.

“He was a bit dirty and horrible but he’s had a bath and lots of TLC so he’s okay,” she said.

“It’s amazing, I can’t believe we have him home to be honest.

“We’ve had so much help and the response, people have been amazing, but it was like a finding a needle in a haystack.

“We’re lucky, very lucky.”

During the burglary, a blue Vauxhall Meriva car was also stolen and later found set alight in Market Close, Barnham, police confirmed.

Officers said the intruders also made off with two laptop computers, £400 cash and a handbag.
