Putting case for Bognor on TV

A new TV report has put the case for Bognor Regis.

The deputy chairman of the town's civic society was given two minutes to promote its attractions on the BBC's South Today programme.

His feature went out on Monday and was in response to the hard-hitting comments of Felpham resident Nicky Simmons shown ten days earlier.

Mr Coster used his precious time to point out Bognor town centre still had plenty of shops, including a traditional butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer, unlike many towns.

"We do have some empty shops but we're hardly alone in that during the recession," he stated.

He spoke to Bognor Regis Chamber of Commerce president and chairman Nick Stuart-Nicolson and Arun District Council's Bognor regeneration leader, Richard McMann, about their hopes for the town.

Mr Coster also used the broadcast to repeat the society's demands for public consultation to begin about the stalled 100m regeneration plans for the Regis Centre and Hothamton sites.

"Bognor has got a good future but Arun has to start listening to people before it makes decisions," he stated.

"We want a proper debate about what people would like to see, especially on the Regis Centre site."
