Queen thanks Bognor Regis Probus Club

Her Majesty noted the club reached its 30th anniversary as the celebrations for her 60 years on the throne took place and had raised a special toast at its May meeting.

The Queen, through her chief clerk, Christopher Sandamas, sent her best wishes to all concerned with the club and for its continued wellbeing.

The more usual meeting business saw the club’s chairman, Brian Vaughan, report the annual chairman’s outing - now called the Derek Barnes day - to Waddesdon Manor had been a glorious day out as well as a test of stamina.

Speaker at the meeting was Probian and retired maths boffin Bryan Wilson.

He gave members an insight into his unique career with the Centre for Educational Development Overseas in which he worked to develop best practice in maths across the Commonwealth.

The meeting began with the members standing in honour of the passing of stalwart member and long-service treasurer David McCabe.

The previous meeting was the club’s 30th anniversary.

Two special guests attended - David Chiverton and Stan Holten - in recognition of their roles in the formation of Probus in Bognor.

Their presence proved a fitting way of celebrating the special occasion along with a sparkling toast at the end of the meeting.

It started with a toast in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
