Queensway is in '˜dire need' of repair

Cllr Phil Scott, East Sussex County Councillor for Hollington and Wishing Tree, has previously highlighted the ‘dire’ state of the road surface on Queensway, which is joined by the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road.

Queensway is covered in potholes and the surface is seriously worn in places.

Cllr Scott has raised the matter with East Sussex County Council several times, but as of yet no repairs have been scheduled.

On Tuesday (July 12), Cllr Scott questioned Cllr Carl Maynard, lead member for transport and environment at ESCC, about the state of the road.

Cllr Scott said: “In relation to the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road, which has been open for some time now and it is a great asset to the area.

“However, Queensway has continued to deteriorate and is in dire need of some remedial works to bring it back to a good standard.

“My question is can the lead member please tell me when we can expect to see Queensway resurfaced and brought up to an acceptable standard?”

Cllr Maynard replied: “As you would probably expect I would not have that information readily to hand but I will reply to Councillor Scott with a written answer as soon as practical.”

Cllr Scott asked whether Cllr Maynard’s reply would include any timescales for remedial works, to which Cllr Maynard answered: “I have given the answer and I think that is all I can do.”

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Scott told the Observer: “The Queensway road’s infrastructure in places continues to erode at an alarming rate, in places it almost resembles an unadopted road such are the depths of the ruts in the road.

“Something needs to be done to bring this road back to an acceptable standard before someone is thrown from a motorcycle or bicycle.”
